A call to get out and pick it up..so the poor albatross chicks don’t starve and we stop poisoning the seas as well as the earth…

Plastic

Plastic is a poison when it breaks down in the sea

That isn’t good for animals including you and me

So if you see some orphaned plastic lying around

Don’t hesitate – pick it up off the ground

Albatross are starving, seals are getting strangled,

Innocent turtles are hopelessly entangled

Our rubbish circles endlessly round in the sea

While we all get poisoned by PCB’s *

Plastic isn’t food, it’s a poisonous addiction

We’ve got to kick the habit, stop believing the fiction

That a plastic culture sets the world free

When we havn’t learned to manage its toxicity

The ocean is a beautiful and wonderful thing

A place where whales and dolphins sing

If we fill it up with junk, they’ll have no place to go

We’v got to clean up, we’ve got to grow

Out of this habit, this destructive addiction

We’ve got to stop believing the lies and fiction

That consumer culture can ever set us free

We’ve got to start to take responsibility

because

Plastic is a poison when it breaks down in the sea

That isn’t good for animals including you and me

So when you find that plastic on the ground

Pick it up – don’t leave it lying around !

*PCB’s

Polychlorinated biphenyls – artificially synthesised chemical compounds, added to glue, paints, fire retardents to add durability; subsequently discovered to be highly toxic to living creatures; they are stored in fat and spread through the food chain and are especially damaging to larger animals higher up the food chain including humans; part of a class known as persistent organic pollutants or POPs which travel in the top surface microlayer of the ocean, and have been found accumulated in ice in polar regions. POPs are invisible and do not break down easily.
